Future Presence

Peter Rubin

Peter Rubin is the author of Future Presence: How Virtual Reality Is Changing Human Connection, Intimacy, and the Limits of Ordinary Life (2018), exploring how VR enables interpersonal dynamics that surpass anything we've experienced through digital communications. He writes frequently about virtual reality for WIRED, where he oversees cultural coverage in the magazine and online; his 2014 cover story on the rise of Oculus introduced many to VR's resurgence, and his 2015 essay in the magazine's sex issue foresaw how "intimacy" would become a watchword for VR's maturation.

Prior to arriving at WIRED in 2011, Rubin was a feature writer and editor for more than a decade, penning cover stories for Elle, Details, GQ, Good, Complex and other magazines. He holds a master’s degree from Columbia University and graduated from Williams College
